A:  The Lord was angry with Solomon because in his later years his heart turned away from God breaking the covenant and commands given to him. Solomon worshipped idols with his wives.

Q: Why did God leave on tribe for Solomon's family to rule?

 A:God left one tribe Judah for Solomon's family to rule primarily to honor his covenant with King David ensuring a continous lamp and lineage in Jerusalem despite punishing Solomon for idolary.
